While my path to English teaching at BGC in Hungary has not been linear, my professional experiences and personal interests have helped to prepare me to be an educator in the BGC setting where learning is facilitated through fun and play.

As a youth, I participated in a variety of theatre programs in my home of Edmonton, Alberta. I also attended Fine Arts High School, where I was able to explore and cultivate my interest in artistic pursuits including drawing, painting, poetry, and contemporary dance. During my time as a High School student, I also volunteered as a Math and Science tutor in grade three classrooms and it was here that I discovered how much I enjoyed working with young children. As a young adult, I continued to spend time volunteering with youth-serving organizations, including Boys and Girls Club of Canada and Community Leagues in Edmonton.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta in City Planning with a minor in Biological Sciences. In my time working as an Urban Planner, I discovered that the most rewarding aspect of my job was not assisting with the design of city projects, but was rather the deep personal relationships I was fortunate enough to develop with members of the public. It was here that I learned the profound impact effective communication has on ensuring the citizens I worked with felt seen and heard; an ethos that continues to guide my work here in Hungary.

As an Urban Planner, I also had the opportunity to facilitate design sessions with young people and I was always struck by how expansive, thoughtful, and aspirational their feedback was. I felt so much joy and inspiration working with youth and I began to explore opportunities that would allow me to turn this passion into a full-time job.

I am so fortunate that my job now involves making connections with children. It is a delight to come to work everyday.
