Angol anyanyelvi lektorI loved drawing and telling stories growing up. I had many dreams and desires for creative careers as a child, but due to a lack of inspiration and encouragement I ended up drifting in a very different direction, and had to make massive course corrections later on. I also discovered many hidden loves later in my life that I know were always there, and would have definitely influenced my life and education had they come to light earlier. Now, it is my goal to be the inspiration and encouragement to others that I wish would have been there when I was a child.
I am the child of an American mother, who was born in Michigan and moved to Budapest in the 80’s for her studies. I completed a BA in education theory at ELTE, and as part of that training I have worked together with groups of students from grade-school and university level. Some of the core beliefs I hold involving education are the need for a shift towards a process focused methodology rather than a content focused one, and the need to teach critical examination of material, learning how to distinguish reliable information from the rest. A quote I find extremely relevant to modern education and very heavily influences the ways I interact with students is this one by the philosopher Plutarch: “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a spark to be ignited.”
When I’m not working, I like to engage in various creative activities such as digital art, creative writing, cooking exotic meals, building and painting models, as well as playing and at times designing games.
